Compact inspection space using telecentric lenses

When a macro lens or CCTV lens is replaced with a telecentric lens, the lens may become too large to fit in the inspection space. In such cases, we propose the following three methods.

1. Using Prism Unit

By attaching a right angle prism or pentaprism to the tip of the telecentric lens, the lens can be placed horizontally, so the space in the height direction can be shortened and space can be secured. Thorlabs offers two types: a right angle prism type and a pentaprism type. The mirror type is folded once, so the image is inverted, and the pentaprism type is folded twice, so the image is erect. For details, see "PRISM ADAPTER SERIES Side View (Prism Adapter) Unit".

2. Place a mirror in the middle of the lens and bend it 90 degrees

In the case of a telecentric lens on both sides, it is possible to attach a mirror to the coaxial epi-illumination part and bend it in the 90° direction. For details, please refer to "TCL SERIES Double Telecentric Lens 90° Side View / Space Saving (Optional)".

3. Fold the inside of the lens several times with a mirror

Opto Engineering's TC CORE series uses a mirror between the front lens and the camera mount to bend the optical path several times, so it can be shortened. For details, please refer to "TC CORE SERIES 5 megapixel 2/3" & 4 megapixel 1/2" sensor compatible large aperture & ultra-compact double-sided telecentric lens".
